Launch date of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars rescheduled

Today Baku has hosted the meeting of heads of railway agencies of the 5 states located along the course of the international route South-West, Caspian Energy News (www.caspianenergy.net) reports with reference to 1news.az.

It involves Iran, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine and Poland which coordinate their moves in order to develop this route.

“This route is very promising, technological and comfortable in terms of logistics. In particular, it can serve for delivery of cargoes from India and Persian Gulf countries to Europe. Tariffs are competitive”, Head of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC Javid Gurbanov said.

According to the results of the meeting, the coordinating committee of the five countries intends to create a working group out of experts of the mentioned countries so that to address the details for its optimal and efficient functioning.

“The meeting of the heads of railway agencies of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey will be held in Kars”, Head of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC Javid Gurbanov said. The purpose of the meeting is to assess the implementation of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars project.

“The launch date of this transport corridor can be précised at this meeting. We are sure that it will be launched before the end of the year”, Head of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC said. It bears reminding that the official opening ceremony of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars international route was supposed to be held late in June.
