EBRD allocates funds for renewables in Kazakhstan

EBRD allocates funds for renewables in Kazakhstan

“We signed a framework agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Under the agreement, $200 million shall be provided from the Global Climate Facility funds for construction of solar and wind power stations in Kazakhstan. This will enable us to additionally raise $480 million from other financial institutions”, Energy Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kanat Bozumbaev said, Caspian Energy News (www.caspianenergy.net) reports with reference to the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

“The signed agreements between the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, financial institutions and investors create a basis for further development of renewable energy sources (RES)”, Kanat Bozumbayev said at the signing ceremony.

“The goal is to bring the share of renewables to 3% of total electricity consumption by 2020. This figure has been stipulated in the Green Economy Transition approach”, the minister stressed.
