We remain confident about bringing Azerbaijani gas to Europe in 2020 – Maroš Šefčovič

“Azerbaijan is a very important partner for Europe. It is the key enabler of the Southern Gas Corridor, which is strategic in helping the EU to further diversify its energy sources, to achieve its climate goals and to improve geopolitical balance and stability in Europe. Today we remain confident about bringing Azerbaijani gas to Europe in 2020”, Vice President of the European Commission for Energy Union Maroš Šefčovičstated in his address to the participants of the Caspian Oil & Gas exhibition which opened this morning in Baku, Caspian Energy News (www.caspianenergy.net) reports.

“In fact the joint declaration on the SGC was signed with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev already more than 6 years ago, in early 2011. When you multiply the time which has been invested in this process with the political level at which it is being promoted, you are really able to appreciate its historic importance. Myself I have attended each and every SGC Corridor Advisory Council meetings of the past 3 years, hosted in Baku by His Excellency President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the Government of Azerbaijan. Considerable progress has been achieved on the ground, in the ground, on the water and under the water over the past years. Works are well advanced on Shah Deniz II field, in expanding the South Caucasus Pipeline, and building the major Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline, also the Trans Adriatic Pipeline is progressing”, Maroš Šefčovič noted.
