Kazakhstan switches to Latin letters

President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev has signed the Decree on shifting the Kazakh alphabet from Cyrillic to Latin letters, Caspian Energy News (www.caspianenergy.net) reports with reference to the official website of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The government of the country was instructed to form a special commission on the issues of shifting the alphabet. Shifting to the Latin letters is planned to be carried out in stages, until 2025.

In the 1990s, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and Moldova declined to use the Cyrillic letters at the official level.
