“Free trade in services across the CIS will enable to open up new opportunities for our businessmen and bring our countries' trade and economic cooperation to a new level. I propose to instruct the Council of Heads of Government and the Executive Committee to speed up work on the draft Free Trade in Services Agreement and approve it in the near future”, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev said.

During the summit, a package of documents aimed at deepening cooperation in various fields was signed. In addition, a decision was made to hand over chairmanship of the CIS Council in 2018 from Russia to Tajikistan.

President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, who will take over the chairmanship of the CIS Council in January 2018, said: “Efforts in the field of economic cooperation will be focused on planned activities for implementation of the third stage of the CIS Economic Development Strategy until 2020”.

According to him, in the field of energy the priority task will be to foster efforts to speed up cooperation in the field of energy-saving technologies, to resume parallel operation of the energy systems of the CIS member states. Along with this, we intend to promote cooperation in the development of renewable energy sources.

As far as the transport sector is concerned, a focus will be on implementation of the priority areas of cooperation between the CIS member states in this area for the period until 2020. We consider necessary to bring the cooperation between our countries in the field of transit of goods, road and rail transport to a qualitatively new level.

“At the meetings of the Council of Heads of State the priority is given, as usual, to economy”, President of Russia Vladimir Putin said. “In this regard, I would like to note that since the beginning of the year economic activity has recovered in our countries. In particular, the volume of mutual trade increased by 25% to reach $75 billion. In order to ensure further steady growth in trade, it is necessary to further improve the free trade regime in the Commonwealth, consistently remove barriers for movement of goods and services, simplify customs procedures, including through cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Commission”, Vladimir Putin said.

According to Vladimir Putin, it is important for the Commonwealth states to adhere to similar positions on key global and regional problems and advocate formation of a fair world order based on universally recognized principles of international law, with the key role of the UN.
